Welcome to Merrimac Shores!

We hope you enjoy living here and look forward to seeing you at neighborhood events! Below you'll find a little neighborhood history, as well as information we hope you find helpful while you get settled.

But first, a little introduction to your new home! Merrimac Shores was established in 1946, and consists of 240 homes. We have a resident only, waterfront park located at the foot of Eggleston at Chesapeake Avenue. Residents (and guests) are welcome to use the park anytime during posted hours. Be sure to check out our park as soon as you’re settled (or when you need a break)–it features a Little Library for book swaps, a communal charcoal BBQ, picnic tables, play equipment and waterfront benches.

Our park also hosts several community focused events throughout the year. Some events are annual, such as our July 4 Parade, our Annual Fall Picnic, and our Pre-Trick or Treat Halloween Party. Other events are periodic (such as outdoor movie nights, food trucks, holiday caroling, and more!), so be sure to watch for events coming soon! You'll find event details several ways: in our quarterly newsletter (printed & email), via email (make sure we have yours!), on Facebook (be sure to follow our group--more info below) & posted on the information board in the park.

Again, welcome to the neighborhood, and thank you for your support!  If you have any questions, please email us anytime at MerrimacShoresCA@gmail.com or reach out via our contact page here.

Annual MSCA Support & Why It Matters

Pay Now
  • Why Do We Have Annual Support?

We ask our residents to pay an annual support payment (January 1 - December 31) of $50, which helps maintain the park, entrance circle & triangle at Eggleston & Chesapeake. It also allows us to pay the insurance fees & property taxes, host community events, provide a quarterly newsletter & more! Once we receive your support payment you will be provided with the new access code to the gate, which changes yearly.

  • How Can I Pay?

Annual Support can be submitted in multiple ways:

    1. Pay using credit cards, PayPal and more via this website. NEW! We now offer a subscription plan so you can auto pay annually! Pay Annual MSCA Support Now
    2. Pay via cash/check & mail or drop it off at the mailbox at the park (3908 Chesapeake Ave.)
    3. Pay via PayPal here.
See Annual MSCA Support Options Here
  • Why Is The Park Locked & How/When Do I Get The Access Code?

Our park is kept locked for the protection of our residents. The code for the park lock will be provided via email once your Annual MSCA Support ($50) has been processed by our Secretary/Treasurer.

Note: Our park gate locks from both sides, please be sure to make sure the gate is securely closed/locked both when entering and leaving the park.

  • How Did Merrimac Shores Get It's Name(s)?

Merrimac Shores is a part of a 100-acre tract of land first patented by Elizabeth Hawthorne on September 20, 1624. When the area was developed in 1945, it was owned by the Armstrong family. The Armstrong Land and Improvement Company then developed the area, and the covenants were approved and certified on March 25, 1946.

This residential section was named in honor of the Confederate Ironclad Merrimac which engaged the Federal fleet of wooden ships on March 8, 1862 and the next day fought a battle with the Monitor.

The streets were named for the ships involved, their officers and designers. The commander of the Merrimac was Commodore Franklin Buchanan, and the commander of the Monitor was Lt. John Lorimer Worden.
